Algemene vragen R7

R7 Duo with choice of search on Astra 1 (& Astra 3) or Astra 3 (& Astra 1)

Especially for R6/7 Duo users, there are two possible search functions for receiving the Astra 3 satellite.
For people who are located in the border area of the reception area (in southern Spain, for example), this may be a solution for receiving Astra 3 with Dutch HD channels.
Of course, this is not a guarantee, because if you are outside the footprint, you will obviously not be able to receive the signal.

In addition to the normal Astra 1 (& Astra 3) option, you also have an Astra 3 (& Astra 1) option.
In a normal situation, we always recommend choosing Astra 1 (& Astra 3), and if you are in the border area, try the other option, Astra 3 (& Astra 1).
If the Astra 1 (& Astra 3) option does not provide a picture, use the Astra 3 (& Astra 1) option to see if it provides reception.

How long does it take for the R7 to find the satellite?

There are several reasons why it may take longer to find the satellite:

  • Not starting with GPS location: Are you waiting for the system to find its GPS location? When the GPS symbol ∞ in the window stops flashing, the GPS location has been found and the system displays the correct LNB position. If you press start after the GPS location has been found, the R7 will search for the correct height.
  • R7 is tilted: if the system is tilted, it will take longer to find the satellite.
  • Download the latest software from the website.

Can I connect a receiver with HD recorder (dual tuner) to an R6/R7 system?

This depends on the type of R6/7 system.

To connect a receiver with an HD disc (dual receiver), you need two coaxial cables to be able to record and watch independently.

The system must be equipped with a Twin LNB.

R6/7 80 (Twin LNB optional)
R6/7 Flat standard equipped with Twin LNB
R6/7 65 duo, not possible (there is no Twin duo LNB suitable for the R7 duo)
R6/7 55/65 single (Twin LNB optional)
Optional Twin LNBs are available from our webshop: Travelvision Webshop

Without a Twin LNB, you can connect a receiver with an HD disc (double receiver), but because the receiver is connected with the single LNB and 1 coaxial cable, only the recording and viewing combination between all channels on the same transponder is possible.

Can a coaxial cable longer than the supplied 15 metres be used?

This is possible; it has been tested with a total coaxial cable length of 30 metres.

However, the following points are important:

The coaxial cable must be of good quality (not too thin, otherwise there will be too much signal loss).
If you use an external connection on your caravan/motorhome, you must also take into account the internal coaxial cable in the caravan/motorhome. If the internal coaxial cable in the caravan/motorhome is of inferior quality (thin core), this will result in additional loss.

Duration of GPS location tracking

Finding the GPS location can vary in time.

Starting up the GPS sensor takes an average of 20-40 seconds after installing the control module.
The sensor then searches for the GPS coordinates of your location.
The GPS sensor is located in the top right corner of the control module.

In order to find the GPS satellites (quickly), the control module needs as much clear view as possible.
The satellite dish can also act as an obstacle between the satellites and the control module (for example, with the motorhome/caravan on one side and the satellite dish on the other).

To reduce the time this takes, you can place the R7 system in the stand so that the control module has as much clear view as possible.

R7 80 cm, why not a Duo LNB?

The R6/7-80 is not suitable for a Duo LNB Astra 1 & 3.

The Travel-Vision R7 systems are designed for regular transport and use in Europe. For example, our used dish blades are not made of aluminium/steel but of high-quality plastic to prevent dents/damage during transport. Since the R7 systems are also intended for use outside the Benelux, we have a different solution than the standard antennas used in the United Kingdom. For example, our 65 cm antenna has a different angle of incidence that is not the same as the standard 60-65 cm antennas sold in the United Kingdom. In combination with our special duo LNB, this allows for good duo reception even far outside the Benelux.

Our 80 cm antenna also has a different angle of incidence than the standard 80 cm antennas sold, and there is no suitable duo LNB available for Astra 1 and 3.

Does the R7 need to be level?

The system does not need to be perfectly level to find the satellite. However, the flatter the system is positioned, the faster the correct satellite will be found. This also works to the advantage of the specified LNB rotation.

I have registered for updates, but have not received any emails.

Registration is fully automated via a mail server.

  • Please check your spam folder if you do not receive an email.
  • You will only receive a notification if there is an important update for the Dutch/Belgian market! These are satellite reception changes relating to the reception of CanalDigitaal and TV-Vlaanderen channels. It is possible that a new software update will be released in the meantime that does not affect Dutch/Belgian channels. You can always perform this software update and it will not affect the reception of these channels.

Firmware en Update vragen R7

The display shows the error message: Firmware not found

Firmware not found can have various causes.

Once you have seen the message on the display, you must perform the following action before trying and testing the steps below:

Switch the control unit off and on again.

1. Did you place the files directly on the stick or in a folder? You must place the files directly in the root of the stick, not in a folder.

2. When you view the files on the stick, do you see, for example, FIRMWARE.BIN or perhaps FIRMWARE(2).BIN? In the latter example, your PC/Mac has downloaded the file multiple times and your browser automatically adds an extension to it. Remove the extension so that it really says FIRMWARE.BIN (this applies to all update files).

3. Problems with the USB stick: format your USB stick and try again. Formatting a USB stick with Windows.

To format a USB stick, proceed as follows:

Select Open Computer/My Computer/This PC (depending on your version of Windows) via the Start button. This window shows the connected drives.

Right-click on the USB stick you have connected and want to use.
Then click on Format.
A window will open with the drive letter indicating which drive is being formatted.
Select FAT or FAT 32 as the file format if the capacity of the stick is greater than 2 GB.
Tick the box next to Quick Format.
Press Start.
If formatting does not help, we recommend trying another USB stick.

Slecht ontvangst

There are several possible causes for poor signal reception. Below are a number of possible causes, sorted by frequency.

Obstacle (building, but also a tree) between the satellite and the system
LNB not turned correctly (0, +1, etc.)
Poor connection of a connector (manual fastening is sufficient)
Cable damage inside or outside the system
Tuner/receiver defective (including cabling between TV and receiver)
LNB defective
Tips:

GPS location:

Are you waiting for the system to find its GPS location? When the GPS symbol ∞ in the window stops flashing, the GPS location has been found and the system will display the correct LNB position.

The R7 Duo antenna is aligned with Astra 3 (Canal Digitaal), but you do not have any channels.

If you have no reception on Astra 3, there may be several causes. The most common causes are listed below in order:

  1. No subscription for HD (check whether your subscription is suitable with Canal Digitaal)
  2. Smartcard inserted incorrectly (if you have a separate smartcard, check whether it is inserted correctly in the holder)
  3. Incorrect DiSEqC settings in the receiver (see DiSEqC settings in the receiver below). If necessary, reset your receiver to factory settings. See the manual for your receiver for instructions.
  4. Blockage for Astra 3 (obstacle/tree, etc.)
  5. Receiver is not sending DiSEqC signals (receiver defective)
  6. You are outside the reception area of Astra 3
  7. Defective LNB, contact your supplier.

DiSEqC settings in the receiver:

To allow the LNB to switch between both satellites, you must have DiSEqC control enabled in your satellite receiver. Check the DiSEqC settings of your satellite receiver or reset your receiver to factory settings. If necessary, consult the manual for your satellite receiver.

Satellite DiSEqC 1.0

Astra 1 19.2° A or 1

Astra 3 23.5° B or 2

If you are unable to determine the cause, we recommend having the system checked by your dealer.

The R7 antenna is aligned with Astra 3 (Canal Digitaal), but you do not have any channels.

If the R6/7 is aligned with the Astra 3 satellite but you are unable to receive any channels, there may be several causes. The most common causes are listed below in order of frequency:

  1. Smartcard inserted incorrectly (if you have a separate smartcard, check that it is inserted correctly in the holder)
  2. Blockage for Astra 3 (obstacle/tree, etc.)
  3. Receiver is not sending LNB voltage (receiver defective)
  4. You are outside the reception area of Astra 3
  5. Defective LNB, contact your supplier.

If you are unable to determine the cause, we recommend that you have the system checked by your dealer.

The display shows the error message E: OXBAFF.

The motor control in the control panel is defective.
Please contact your dealer or Travel-Vision for repair of the control panel.

The system has found the satellite but is aligned towards the caravan/camper?

Reflection of the satellite signal may cause the system to align itself with a reflective surface, such as the side of the motorhome/caravan. The satellite signal is sufficient for satellite reception but may be too weak to view (some) TV channels.

Move the antenna and realign it, or stand between the dish and the reflective surface during the search procedure.

Satellite found but you do not have all channels

  • Check whether your subscription/smart card is still active.
  • Check the skew position of the LNB.

You hear a rattling noise, but the R6/R7 is not turning.

The motor pins of the control unit do not rotate properly in the black inserts of the system.

  1. Check that the control unit is correctly inserted into the system. If necessary, remove the control unit and reinsert it.
  2. The black inserts need to be replaced. Please contact your dealer or Travel-Vision.

The system has found the satellite, but you have no picture.

  • Check the connection cables between your satellite receiver and your television.
  • Switch off and then switch on the receiver and television in sequence. If necessary, consult the manual for your satellite tuner/television.
  • Check the coaxial cables between the antenna and the receiver, including any switch/splitter box.
