What is Android?

Android is an operating system designed for use on tablets and smartphones. However, developers and manufacturers of online media players have made Android suitable for online media players as well, with a few modifications. This means that virtually all apps available on tablets or phones can also be used on these types of media players. The advantage is that a much wider range of apps is available. The disadvantage is that the apps are not optimised for use on screens larger than a tablet. The image quality is therefore not optimal on a larger television.

What is Android TV?

Android TV is an operating system for Smart TVs developed by Google. What does that mean: a TV powered by Android™? It is a TV based on the Android™ platform, similar to that of smartphones and tablets, but adapted to the screen sizes and features of a television. In addition to the better adapted screen sizes, another advantage is that Android TV apps can be controlled via a remote control, which is included with the television.

Android TV and Chromecast: what are the differences?

Chromecast can only be used in combination with the Cast function, which allows you to stream content from apps to your television. Android TV is much more versatile, allowing you to install apps and purchase content via your television. Android TV can also be controlled using a remote control.

The Ziggo Go app for Android/smart TV only works with a Ziggo internet connection

The use of Android TV apps on Smart TVs is not covered by the Content Portability legislation for online services and is therefore not an open internet service. In this way, we comply with the agreements made with the content parties. The Ziggo Android TV app is an “in-house solution” for a second and third television in the home. This can therefore only be offered via a Ziggo internet connection.

With the Ziggo GO app, you can watch television anywhere in the EU if you are connected to the internet (Wi-Fi, 3G, 4G or 5G). This applies to live television channels that can be watched outside the home, programmes you want to watch again and Movies & Series (XL). This does not work outside the EU. This is due to the rights of television programmes.
